Manuel Antonio National Park
The National Park Manuel Antonio is located in the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, in the province of Puntarenas (one of the main ports of this country), the park is located to 157km South al of the city of San José capital of Costa Rica and 7km South al of the city of Quepos, between Damas y Matapalo, the park was established the 15 of November of 1972 with an extension of 683 hectares in the terrestrial part and 55,000 hectares in the marine part, the region where the National Park of Manuel Antonio is located, was populated by the Indians Quepoa, name that gave origin to the city of Quepos.
The Central Pacific is ideal to travel from a beach to another one, especially if the traveller is anxious to know the different "sensations from beaches" in a short period of time. The beaches of Jacó and the near Playa Hermosa, as well as Dominical Beach, are the places preferred for the surfers; nevertheless, the National Park of Manuel Antonio, has unquestionably become the main attraction of the region for the lovers of the nature, who wish the comfort and some options like restaurants and bars in the outskirts of the national park to be able to rest after the long walks by the footpaths.
This park counts with one of the most impressive landscapes of all Costa Rica, this park have white sands and green foliages in the middle of great mountains; it is located in the live zone of the rain forest.
Inside the outstanding fauna, we could found the raccoon, pizote (also known as the White-nosed Coati or Antoon), guatuza (also known as the Spotted Paca or tepezcuintle), the Sloths of two fingers, the white face monkey, felines of considerable size and the tití monkey. Also there are a lot of varieties of birds like tucancillo, the pelicano or buchon, the Guaco, the fishing sparrow hawk, martín green fisherman and chirin cocaine. Additionally there are a very exuberant marine fauna like moray eel, rays, and angel Fish.
This park protects area of primary forest, secondary forest, mangrove swamp, beach vegetation, marine atmospheres, islands and a lagoon of 14 hectares, the more characteristic species of flora inside del primary forest are guácimo Colorado, the pilón, the cedro maría, the guapinol blanco, the surá, the black guapinol, logable tree in extension danger, the milky, the cenízaro and the ceiba.
