The Corcovado National Park has an ecological extensive variety and it is one of the most biological places of the world. It was created in October 24 of 1975, and is considered a very important piece in the ample system of national parks and biological reserves of the country.
The park is very popular, not only between tropical ecologists, but also in regular visitors, who can observe an abundant wild life.
This surprising park conserves the greater primary forest of the American Pacific, along with one of the few remainders of considerable size of tropical rainforests in the world.
The Corcovado National Park is exotic and exuberant; it lodges thirteen main ecosystems that go from mangrove swamp and woods of jolillo palm until herbaceous marshes of fresh water and low ground rainforest.
The park protects more than 140 species of mammals, 400 species of birds, 20 of which they are endemic, 116 species of reptiles and amphibians, 40 species of fish and at least 500 species of trees. This park is sufficiently great to maintain important populations of tapir (Tapirus bairdii) (also call danta), jaguar (Panthera onca) and Peccary (Tayassu pecari familiar of the Razorbacks) and the almost extinct Poison Arrow Frog, all these species are considered in extinction danger.
Costa Rica in himself is considered like an ideal place for the ornithologists, and Corcovado contains several hundreds species of birds. Also There are a small population and in recovery of Harpy Eagle. The abundance in wild life can be explained partly by the varied vegetation that it has.
You can arrive at the National Park of Corcovado via Puerto Jiménez or by Drake Bay. These two towns are the main front door to the park. The park is open to the public but it is due to make reservations in Puerto Jimenez. It is possible to encamp or to make reservations in hotels, can be served meals but it must notify 1 week later.
